Initiated in 2011 and organised jointly with Ringwood School, the competition has expanded to this year receiving over 900 entries from 35 schools invited across Hampshire, Dorset and Wiltshire. This year’s theme was LAYERS.
Judging was carried out by a team drawn from the Rotary Club of Ringwood, Ringwood School Art Department, The Royal Photographic Society Digital Imaging Group, Ringwood Camera Club and the Arts University Bournemouth. A short list of some 50 images were selected within the four classes – Adult, Primary, Years 7-10 and Years 11-13.
The Winners in Student categories were, Emmeline Hall, St. Marks Junior School (Primary), Billy Dixon-Clarke, Trafalgar School (Y 7-10) and Freddie Serle, Ringwood School (Y 11-13).
In 2022, Rotarian Michael Lingam-Willgoss, a founder member of the competition team and a major fund raiser died. In his memory the award for the overall Best in Show, the MLW Prize for the Young Photographer of the Year, was presented to Billy Dickson-Clarke.
The Arts University Bournemouth Prize went to Lily Cunningham-Davis King Edward 7thSchool (Y11-13) and was presented by Josh Read (Course Leader, Foundation Diploma in Art, Design and Media).
Mr. Max Cheshire, an alumnus of Ringwood School’s Photographic Course, now an established Professional Photographer, was Guest Speaker.
The winning entries and the short-listed images will be on display at the Greyfriars Community Centre, Ringwood during the latter part of March 2025.
