Quotes from conversations with staff
· Q: Does this really benefit the students?
A: (from Crypt School teacher) "Absolutely, we just cannot do anything like this at school. A similar task would have had everything pre-prepared and allow limited time for a demonstration before moving on to another topic. This tournament give the students a real chance to tackle a problem on their own from start to finish"
"The value can be seen from the fact that students who took part last year did significantly better in their GCSEs - the experience they had gained in the competition really helped."
· Another asked - "Can we work with you to put on something similar for parents and teachers? If we are to really make progress with STEM subjects we need to enthuse them as well as the students."
Overall, the staff this year were every bit as enthusiastic as the students - and the students without exception were focused on the task from start to finish.
Hopefully there will be an even bigger take up for next year's competition.
