Helping students in local schools
Each year a group of us visit a local 6th form college and, in pairs, give students their first taste of being interviewed by the outside world.
Rather than a job interview it is an opportunity for us to help the students by pointing out good and bad points in their presentation. We spend 20 minutes with each student and then compare notes before the student comes back for a few minutes when we suggest ways in which we think they could improve the way they present them selves in the future.
A relaxed meal afterwards gives further opportunity to talk to the students, this time relaxed.
Feedback from the college and the request that we return each year means it is worthwhile way of 'giving back'.
