The preface to this 2005 Centenary booklet:
When last year's President Jim Smith asked me to help produce a booklet to celebrate 100 years of Rotary, I wondered how to approach it.
I need not have worried as, after all, Rotarians are full of ideas. What follows is the result of consultations and contributions from all the members of the Rotary Club of Cambridge. I wish to thank them all, and in particular, my co-producer Francis Hookham, who has put the booklet together and saved me from many pitfalls.
I do not apologise for presenting a picture of an organisation that is a real force for good in an imperfect world. Rotary often proves to be the catalyst for results which far exceed the contribution of individuals, be they Rotarians or not.
Having said that, individual worth is an integral part of Rotary. I have found that Rotary is inclusive, far from pi- ous and, through its emphasis on fellowship, extremely supportive of members.
Enjoy and consider! John Holroyd, Editor
