Rotary Club Lunch Meeting

Fri, Nov 13th 2015 at 12:45 pm - 2:00 pm

We will meet as usual for lunch. Our speaker after lunch will be David Garret, who is the executive director of the Phoenix Theatre in Blyth

Our President-elect, Jo Robertson has invited David to speak to us. She says, "David is a very good speaker and has said himself he can talk at length about the theatre. I think it will be an interesting talk and would be an ideal guest day." So feel free to bring guests with you.

The website of the Phoenix Theatre gives the following information:

"Based in the town centre of Blyth, the Phoenix theatre is a fantastic arts resource complete with a 300 seat theatre space, rehearsal space, bar and foyer gallery. The theatre programme successfully combines both amateur and professional performances and attracts audiences from a broad area including North Tyneside and rural Northumberland.

"In the early 1990's the Blyth Arts and Community Association operated a small amateur theatre group out of a converted church.  The building was condemned because of an unsafe roof in 1994.  An energetic amateur committee identified the opportunity to regenerate their site.  With combined funding from the National Lottery, The Foundation for Sport and Arts, local authority and other local sources the new building with a 300 seat theatre opened in 1997."

It is likely that David's talk will be longer than 20 minutes so the estimated closing time of the meeting will be 2.15pm. Members who have urgent appointments can of course give their apologies and leave early.
