Rotary Club Evening Meeting

Wed, Mar 2nd 2016 at 6:30 pm - 9:00 pm

We meet at 6pm at the Jesmond Cricket Club. At 6.30pm Ian Knight will speak to us about a how a project in Sri Lanka has helped children following the Tsunami of 2004. His talk will be followed by a meal at 7pm.

Ian Knight is chairman the Sri Lanka Schools Project which was started by Ian and his wife Kate in 2005 whilst Ian was Headteacher at Astley Community High School.  It became a registered charity in 2009. The charity supports a group of schools in Sri Lanka.

Our President, Peter Tracey, says, "Ian was Headteacher at Astley High School in Seaton Delaval having joined the school as Head of the Geography department in 1985  when the previous incumbent moved on….that was me.. and I went to Bedlington. We have been friends ever since.

"Ian was greatly moved by the Tsunami disaster that afflicted Sri Lanka in 2008, and determined to do what he could to offset the impacts on children. His story of bringing practical help and establishing an educational charity is a moving and inspiring one and I urge you all to put the date in your diary to be there on Wednesday March 2".

Further information may be found on the charity's Facebook Page
