Norwich Cathedral - a Service of Thanksgiving to celebrate the life of Hilary King 1946 - 2015

Hilary

This widely attended Memorial Service, taken by Canon Andy Bryant, was organised by her lovely husband Chris to celebrate the rich and varied life of a great rotarian - Hilary King who died suddenly in June 2015.

The retiring collection went to a charity very close to her heart - the Rotary's End Polio Now Campaign.

Hilary was a teacher first children, then adults. She had 2 children, Rachel and Richard of whom she was justly proud, plus her grandchildren. Her father had been a Rotarian and the whole concept of embracing service to others and international friendship was irresistible to her and she joined the Norwich Club in the 1990's alongside her husband.  She was endlessly concerned about the welfare of others and actively supported a long list of good causes over her liifetime, including Mercy Ships, the Grove Cheshire Home for the severely disabled, the Rotary School Choirs Competition, the Peace Programme at Bradford University and co-ordinating Rotary scholars from around the world to study at Cambridge University and the University of East Anglia.

Many people paid tribute to Hilary :

Her sister Isobel said "she leaves behind a huge hole in so many peoples lives. She was dedicated, loving, generous, kind and driven to help good causes. She achieved so much and I am lucky to have been her sister."

Kaori - a Rotary Scolar from Tokyo said " I shall never forget your smiling help, especially with my pronunciation. I would have liked you to see I am now teaching English to young students as a confident university lecturer."

See her article in the Eastern Daily Press p54 Tue 16 Feb 2016.
