Rotary Club Lunch Meeting

We meet as usual for lunch at 12.45pm. President Jo conducted her first CLUB FORUM and updated those present with details of activities and events planned so far.,

EVENTS

  • Lord Mayors Coffee event Monday 15 August Silver Lounge Civic Centre. Meet at rear entrance to Civic Centre at 1.20 report to Reception and will be escorted to Silver Lounge. Event begins at 1.30 pm. Final numbers 20.
  • Tickets now purchased for Last Night of the Proms at City Hall on Saturday 15 October
  • I will try and arrange early evening meal possibly at Frankies and Bennys (opposite City Hall) for those members who require. Brian has tickets and will distribute and require payment. Event now closed.
  • Tickets purchased for Christmas Show "Blake" at Phoenix Theatre on Saturday 17 December, Brian will distribute tickets and require payment.
  • David Garrett director of the Phoenix will attend club on 28 October when hospitality package for this event will be discussed. Event now closed.
  • Blyth Tall Ships event cancelled as we have a speaker on that day.
  • Fellowship lunch arranged for Tuesday 23rd August at Avanti Italian Restuarant Brentwood Avenue, Jesmond. Meet at 12.30, Lunch any pasta or pizza from Happy Hour menu (includes vegetarian) plus sweet, plus glass of wine or soft drink, price £10. Please come along and enjoy fellowship bring wives, husbands, family, friends. Advise Secretary Linda by Friday 19/8.


CLUB VISITS

  • Club Visit to Morpeth arranged for Tuesday 16 August. Meet at Morpeth Golf Club at 5.45pm. All members welcome. Advise Secretary Linda by 15/8.
  • Club Visit to Durham arranged for Thursday 15 September meet at Ramside Hall Hotelat 12 noon for 12.30pm. All members welcome. Advise Secretary Linda by 2/9.


FUNDING

My Chosen Charity is Macmillan Cancer Support. Macmillan are carrying out a large fund raising store collection event in September with Marks and Spencer.

  • I have been offered three store collections in M&S Eldon Square, Kingston Park, and Gosforth. We will be able to use our promotional material together with Macmillan logos etc. We could raise a lot of money for Macmillan and also publicise our club so I ask please for your full support in carrying out this task (chairs will be available for collectors).
  • I have asked that the funding goes to our local community Macmillan Cancer Support. Brian and Linda are heading this event and will be contacting you.. we have access to the Macmillan Social Media Site and following my initial meeting they have posted messages about our club.

  • We have an A-Z Macmillan Fundraising Ideas Booklet and Monthly Ideas Sheet (ideas for inspiration) which is now held by Janet Fay Chairman of the Projects Committee for Project Committee members and available to all members.


OTHER BUSINESS

  • Seating plan was changed and members approved.
  • John Gillespie said Grace the first of our members to do so for the new presidential year.
  • Linda gave the first of her weekly "Health Tips for Club Members" - very much appreciated by members
  • Surinder will start Yoga next week (19/8) from 12.30 - 12.45 for those who are interested
  • Requested any comments or suggestions from members - left open.
