.... for Peace, the world over

Rotary Clubs world-wide participate in our unique peace programme, dedicated to work towards peace throughout the world

Background considerations

Statistics tell us ....... Between 20,000 and 50,000 children are embroiled in more than 200 gangs in London, 170 in Glasgow, 180 across Northern Ireland. Pre-teens carry out gangland executions. Internet and text bullying is on the increase starting before the age of 8. 1 in 3 is a victim of cyber-bullying. Humiliating images posted on social networking sites are twice as likely to be targeted at girls. Depression and self-harming is on the increase. Suicide is one of the highest killers of young people. These are all examples of the “war” our young people live with every day. The project sets out to help our young people to resolve their conflict and turn it into success.

In Rotary we have our unique peace programme. Some of the world’s most dedicated and brightest professionals receive fully funded fellowships to study at our Rotary Peace Centers. In just over a decade, the Rotary Peace Centers have trained more than 900 fellows globally for careers in peace building. Many of them go on to serve as leaders in national governments, NGOs, the military, law enforcement, and international organizations like the United Nations and World Bank.
