Since leaving Schroders in 1999 as a Group Managing Director, Philip Augar has been writing and commenting on banking and other businesses. He is the author of several books and contributes to the Financial Times and BBC. He has been a non-executive at Fuller Smith & Turner (where he was senior independent director), KPMG and the retail bank TSB. He was a board member at the Department for Education, 2004-10 and the Home Office, 2010-14, where he also chaired UK Border Agency. He has a doctorate in history, is a former fellow of St Catharine’s College, Cambridge and currently holds fellowships at the Institute of Historical Research and the University of Manchester.
