Jun 2017 Peter Williamson on China - the New Norm & FOOD BANK

Mon, Jun 26th 2017 at 5:45 pm - 8:00 pm

A very topical subject tonight. Speaker Host - Nick Hadley, General Host - Richard de Horsey, Cashier - David Adamson.

A very interesting topic tonight - where have the developments in China placed it in the world stage ?

We were delighted to start the evening by presenting a cheque for £1855 to the Samaritans.

Members were treated to an outstanding talk on the current growth in Chain and the reasons why they are being so successful.  Professor Williams included some surprising elements to his talk including the fact that China is now outsourcing to cheaper labour territories such as Bangladesh.  While the rest of the world seems to think China is growing primarily because of its huge export efforts, it is actually domestic consumption which is the prime driver for the economy. He also mentioned that they were bypassing some intermediate technologies such as the land-line and moving directly to the adoption of new technologies.  Finally, imagine being able to insure yourself against watching too much television!  A memorable education, and typical of the quality of speakers we are fortunate to experience   - Speaker Host Nick Hadley.
