A Thousand Cyclists Took Part in 2017 Sportive
Over a thousand cyclists took to the road on Sunday 13th August for the biggest Sodbury Sportive ever.
Actively supported by members and friends of the Rotary Club of Chipping Sodbury, the event regularly attracts cyclists from all over the country. The Sodbury event is now regarded as one of the UK’s most popular cycling sportives.
The Sportive follows three circular routes of 30, 60 or 100 miles, and riders set off between 8.00 and 9.00am from Chipping Sodbury Rugby Cub. Heading into wonderful South Cotswold countryside, ahead of them are some of the region’s most spectacular and challenging roads.
“This is a very important part of our fundraising calendar”, said Rotary Club President John Berridge. “The sportive is a huge undertaking .”
Months of pre-planning help to enhance the popularity of the sportive and give riders a perfect day out.
As one rider emailed after the event: ‘I have done several sportives this year, from very small ones right through to the Velothon Wales in July. Out of all of these, the Sodbury sportive was by far the most impressive and enjoyable to participate in.
Everything from start to finish was first class…. I will be telling people what an excellent sportive this is to ride’
