Raffle -Liz Mackenzie
Reception - Sybille Handley-Schachler / Norman Watson

Jim, Susan and Anna

Susan Williamson and her daughter Anna were speakers at the Rotary Club of South Queensferry on Thursday 10th October. Now staying in Dalmeny after living in Switzerland and Canada, they discovered that the old Dalmeny phonebox was available to be put to public use through the Neglected Phoneboxes Scheme. Inspired by the local book exchanges they had seen in little roadside sheds in Canada, they investigated if it would be possible to use the Dalmeny box for a similar purpose. Although they found the box can be transferred to an official charity for a nominal sum, other costs such as change-of-use fees, repair, fitting our, maintenance and insurance must be met by the adopting charity. With this in mind, Susan and Anna approached the local Rotary Club for assistance with the project. Members listened to their proposal with interest and agreed to discuss the subject at a future council meeting once more definite costs were known. The speakers were introduced by Norman Watson. Sybille Handley Schachler proposed the vote of thanks.

In other business, President Jim McCulloch announced that the basic costs for the trishaw being raised by Queensferry Churches Care in the Community for taking elderly people on excursions in the town had been met. The Rotary Club's contribution plus a matching grant from Rotary District 1020 played a major part in achieving this goal.
