The International and Foundation Committee

Our International and Foundation Committee provides the link between our Club and Rotary International’s Foundation Trust, it’s only  global Charity. The Charity transforms your gifts into projects that change lives both close to home and around the world. It allows our members to tap into a global network of Rotarians who invest their time, money and expertise into Rotary’s six priorities. These are the promotion of peace, fighting disease, providing clean water, saving mothers and children, supporting education and growing local economies.

The Committee receives and evaluates requests for assistance  from charities and individuals for projects that fall within the above parameters, and promotes action by the Club when an international disaster occurs.

The Committee actively supports Rotary global projects such as Polio Plus, run in conjunction with the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and the United Nations,  that has all but eradicated polio around the world; and international exchange programmes for students and business people and professionals, between the ages of 25 and 40, which promote goodwill and understanding.

Recent activities have included:

Funding and support for three secondary school children at the Bahati Division Academy, Kenya via KES, a UK based charity run by Rotarians.

Funding of Aqua boxes for refugees from the Syrian conflict, Nepal earthquake victims and other disaster areas.

Funding assistance has been provided to Mercy Ships, which carries out life saving and enhancement surgery to the disadvantaged in Africa, Bridge2Aid, which provides basic dental training and equipment to health workers  in East Africa and the Guildford Eye Project which carries out eye operations and sight saving treatment to the poor in India and Africa.

Material donations have been made to the Wirksworth based tool recycling charity.

Continued support has been provided to the Rotary Eradication project.
