Wishing Wells

We fundraise for good causes via our wishing wells

Rotary Club of Matlock Wishing Wells

Despite the Coronavirus pandemic and the lack of visitors to the Matlock District, the four Rotary Wishing Wells in the area are still attracting donations from Visitors to our part of Derbyshire.

The Rotary Club of Matlock have Wishing Wells in Matlock by the Town Bridge, Matlock Bath in the Riverside Gardens, one in Rowsley and one at the Heights of Abraham attraction. Over the 4 years to June 2019, these have produced over £5,000 for our local and district Charities, and despite the ‘lock-downs’, this year up until June 2020, visitors and locals have donated over £1600.

We know that donations into the wells will be reduced this year but despite that, we have been able to make £1000 donation to the Jigsaw Food Bank, £250 to Edale Mountain Rescue Team and £1,600 to other Local and International good causes, this current year.

As we are not able to hold our usual fund-raising events, such as the Cromford Car Show and the Mulled Wine Stall at the Matlock Christmas Market etc, fund-raising by means other than Wishing Wells has been non-existent. With the preferred use of ‘contactless card payments’ resulting in less cash in pockets and purses, donations to worthy causes are far less.

Along with every other local Charitable organisation, we hope that in 2021, we will be able to hold these important events again. In the meantime, we wish to thank all visitors and local people who have donated their cash and ‘Made a Wish’ via our Wishing-Wells, for their invaluable donations that enable the Rotary Club of Matlock to continue to support those charities and organisations most in need.
