The speaker for this evening was Philip Everitt on the role of Windsor Park Rangers. Philip is the ‘Deputy Ranger for Windsor Great Park’ (no jokes allowed) the ‘Head Ranger’ is no less than HRH D.of.E. Philip described some of his career as a Land Agent looking after some of the most significant parts of England, including most of Salisbury Plain for the MOD, Blenheim Palace for the Duke of Marlborough and now Windsor.
Rangers are responsible the Park and the maintenance of its historic buildings, keeping in good order places like, Cumberland Lodge, Royal Chapel, WGP post Office, The Lodges and The Saville Buildings which have just a major make over. It was interesting to note that the magnificent undulating roof was clad, as were the floors, with timber (oak and larch) grown on the Estate. This is now a visitor centre open to the pubic and Philip was keen to encourage us to come and see the results of this £6 million face lift.
