27th March 2025- Social Quiz eveningRob Gray

Gail asked members to try and promote our upcoming Art and Craft Fair as much as possible; placing flyers in prominent places, talking to U3A groups etc

Rob then presented his Food and Drink quiz with cryptic clues and anagrams, with the 3 tables acting as joint contestants. Table 1 scoring 17, table 2 scoring 18 and table 3 with 16 out of a possible 25; all very tight.

The second quiz was based on the ‘Pointless’ TV game concept trying to get the right answer, but with the lowest result from the answers provided by Rob. Each table, in turn, getting the opportunity to go first and if an incorrect answer scoring 100 points. Such questions as ‘Birds’ beginning with the letter ‘b’, table 1 providing the only correct answer and 12 points. ‘Fruit’ beginning with ’p’; table 2 providing ‘persimmon’ scoring zero and table 1 papaya, scoring 2.  Then football teams in the English leagues having ‘city’ in their name, Bradford scoring 2 and Exeter scoring 3, Swansea scoring 26.

Countries beginning with ’n’; confectioneries related to ‘space’, with starburst scoring 18 for table 3, Milky Way and Mars. Finally, lines on the London underground, with Bakerloo, Waterloo City and Docklands Light railway featuring.

Rob did not bother scoring, declaring table 1 as the clear winners with President Gerry, Ian, Alan F., Gail, Chris N. and yours truly.  The chocolate prize was shared amongst all participants and Gerry thanked Rob for his preparations and presentation, receiving a round of applause from members                         AR
