The Community Project Group (CPG) has provided and continues to support services and activities across both the local community and the wider world by way of hands-on involvement in addition to small donations to local charities and organisations within Harrogate and district.
The Rotary Club of Harrogate has recorded a number of major achievements during its hundred years plus existence including:
- founding the Harrogate Society for the Blind (now known as Vision Support Harrogate District),
- creating a holiday camp for disadvantaged people,
- creating an orphans refuge,
- forming the Harrogate Boys Club,
- creating the Harrogate Flower Fund and
- running numerous other community and vocational projects
Following the Rotary philosophy of 'Service before Self' the Community Project Group has built upon past achievements
- providing transport for elderly people to a variety of regular and ad hoc events within the Harrogate Council for Voluntary Service,
- marshalling one-off events including the Olympic Torch relay and the Tour de France peleton in Harrogate,
- delivering meals on wheels to elderly people.
Currently the CPG:
- organises the car parking for Saint Michael's Hospice:
- Light up For Life Christmas event
- Garden Open Day in August
- Twilight Walk in March
- arranges a community collection - it is hoped that Morrisons will contiue to allow our club to carry out a bucket collection on the weekend before Christmas,
- our Christmas Tree collection has raised significant funds over the years despite havng to limit itself in areas covered, these two Christmas events form asignificant and important part of our fund raising activities in support of local charities,
- Knaresborough Bed Race marshalling support,
- Harrogate Food Bank & Easter Egg Collection,
- Kids Out - the Club will continue to provide financial support for a Springwater school outing.
