Children in Need Collection

In November 2024 Rutherford raised over £2,000 with a Sponsored Cycle Ride.

Pudsey Cycle

For the 2024 Children in Need sponsored cycle event the cyclists were split into two groups, five in a ‘Northern Group’ (Colin, Mike, Simon, Steve G and David, photo above) and five in a ‘Southern Group’ (Bob, Suzie, George, Martin and Paul). A route was put together which showed that by starting at 0915, we could potentially call at 16 members’ houses by around lunchtime where a meet up at the Old Spring Pub, Chesterton had been planned.

It was a very successful day, raising over £2,000 to date for Children in Need and involving 75% of the Club in one way or another. Individual mileages cycled ranged from just a few for the puncture sufferers to nearly 33 miles for one rider with quite a few others clocking up nearly 30 miles, a good distance considering all those miles were just ridden in the morning.

Rutherford took to the saddle to raise funds for Children in Need 2023 following the success of last year’s fundraising and cycle tour of members’ homes. This year the format remained the same with the cyclists split into four groups to complete the challenge of visiting all Club members in one day.

Each team of cyclists was ably led by an appointed captain who fine-tuned their route. Once again Simon Durrant set up a JustGiving page and away we went!

Each group planned their route, and was tasked to finish at The Old Spring, Chesterton Road by 1pm, which they achieved.

The ride was a great success, with near perfect conditions for November, and all riders happy with their accomplishment.

Thanks go to Simon Durrant for the organisation, and to all members, friends and contacts who donated to Children in Need via the JustGiving site.
