Guy Watson [in the picture with President Mike and Vice-President Ann] from Laithwaite’s Wines told us the history of the Company which stated in 1969 and also his own background.
As his talk should have taken place in January but cancelled due to the snow the wines originally chosen were more for winter so Guy had adapted to make them more “summery”
The wine tasting started with 2 Chardonnays – both quite different due to the way they were stored.
Then onto the red – the surprise for most people was that it had been chilled. Guy suggested that any Portuguese or Spanish wines are good served this way.
Next was Sloe Gin good on it’s own but he then added Prosecco which made it into a refreshing summer drink.
Finally we tasted White Port.
Laithwaite’s also have a wine school and are running a day course on 21st July – four Rotarians have already signed up!!!!
