Cutting the ribbon at Swindon's new Radiotherapy Centre

Brighter Futures launched their Radiotherapy Appeal in 2015. Today, 7 years later, a ribbon cutting ceremony has taken place at the Great Western Hospital

Brighter Futures launched their Radiotherapy Appeal in 2015. Today (23rd June 2022) they were invited to a small ribbon cutting ceremony at the new OUH Radiotherapy Centre at the Great Western Hospital in Swindon.  Now everyone is counting down the days until it opens later this Summer.

Posting on Facebook Brighter Futures wrote: "We are so grateful to everyone who shared their stories of having to travel to Oxford and to all who supported the fundraising in the most incredible way. Our local community is amazing, and we are so proud of the part that you have played in bringing Radiotherapy Services closer to home for patients diagnosed at Great Western Hospital.  Thank you Oxford University Hospitals, NHS Foundation Trust, Great Western Hospital, NHS Foundation Trust, the contractors Sisk and everyone who has worked so hard to bring this to fruition!"

Rotary clubs in and around Swindon donated a total of one third of a million pounds towards the LINAC machine installed in the radiotherapy unit. This was the largest single donation to the Brighter Futures appeal to raise the £2.9 million pound cost of the machine. Twelve local Rotary clubs led by Rotarian Howard Small of Marlborough Rotary Club set about raising the funds to make this huge contrinbution possible.

Rotarians Howard Small and Peter Hayman were invited to the ribbon cutting ceremony.
