70th Anniversary

Celebrating 70 years serving the community locally and internationally, whilst having fun!

The first ever meeting of Rotary International took place in February 1905 in Chicago, USA, when there were just 4 members in this first club. Since those early days, Rotary International has developed to become one of the world’s largest voluntary service organisations with in excess of 1.2 million members in 35,000 clubs in 204 countries.

In 1955, the Rotary Club of Ewell was awarded its Charter, and since then, our members have been carrying out the work of Rotary locally in Surrey, in the UK and throughout the world.

Since celebrating our 60th Anniversary in 2015, we have initiated and organised 3 family fun days in 2016, 2017 and 2018 jointly with the Rotary Club of Epsom. We have continued to support the India Vidiyal Project, purchasing 3 ambulances, materials and animals such that over the years it has become self-sufficient. We received support and funding from our contact club, the Rotary Club of Condé Saint-Amand, and we obtained a Rotary Global Grant for this project.

During the COVID pandemic we provided clothing and materials to local hospitals. We support the Epsom and Banstead Pantry financially and with fresh produce from our joint Community Allotment project with the Rotary Club of Epsom.

We have held numerous fundraising events supporting local charities, including Warspite Sea Scouts, The Sunnybank Trust, Debra, Air Ambulance Charity Kent Surrey Sussex, Epsom Riding for the Disabled, Epsom & Ewell Age Concern and Home Start. Internationally, we have provided support following many overseas disasters and supported Hope for Malawi, Lend with Care and Kids for Kids.

Local initiatives have included Stroke Awareness, The Ewell Rotary Cup awarded to gifted students at NESCOT, Project Wenceslas and gardening both for local residents and at Linden Bridge and Auriol schools.
