Our French Contact Club

Our Contact Club is the Rotary Club of Condé St Amand, France. We very much enjoy our visits to see them in France and when they come to visit us. Rotarians volunteer to host visiting Rotarians and their partners/families. Over the course of many visits, we have built many lasting friendships.

In April 2024 we hosted our French friends, beginning with a lovely Friday fish and chip event meal at the Heathside Hotel. There was a lot to catch-up on as this was the first time we had seen each other since May 2019, mainly due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Rotarian Olivier Daher from the Rotary Club of Lille Sud came along to give us a presentation about the Solar Water Pump project in Lebanon to which we have pledged to donate £1,000. He originally came to France from the Lebanon with his family as a child. We met him on one of our previous visits to Condé St Amand.

On Saturday we all enjoyed a visit to the gardens at RHS Wisley. Splitting into two groups to tour the gardens, our guides gave us a potted history of the gardens which were created by George Fergusson Wilson beginning in 1878. The Rhododendrons were in bloom and were magnificent. The Amalfi Restaurant in Ewell Village was a great evening venue for some delicious food and to socialise with our friends.

More of our Club members joined us for the ‘Farewell Buffet Lunch’ on Sunday at St John’s Church Hall in Tadworth. Edibles Delicatessen in Banstead delivered an excellent buffet. Jenny Read, Shiranne Davis and Jasmine Heath made us some delicious desserts. President Andrew and President Riad gave us all a summary of each Club’s achievements since we last met in 2019. Ewell Past Presidents Duncan Cox and Peter Yeates were presented with long service certificates, 40 and 30 years respectively.

Thanks to Peter Heard, John Smith and Margaret Martin for their excellent planning and organisation of a great weekend.

We are looking forward to visiting our friends in Condé St Amand in 2025.
