This is the press release sent out on October 14th.....
On October 5th at the Presteigne Local Food Market and on October 12th at the Knighton Community Market, the Knighton and District Rotary Club collected donations for the earthquake and tsunami relief work in Sulawesi, Indonesia. Rotary member Chris Ruby said “We had discussed at one of our meetings how best to respond to this traumatic event. We decided to ask the local community of Knighton and Presteigne to support the efforts of Rotary International and Rotary Clubs in the Sulawesi area in the reconstruction of their communities over the coming months and years.” Those who attended the markets were very generous in their contributions, many expressing their sympathy and concern for the people of the devastated region. Incoming Rotary Club President Chris Price said “We were delighted by everyone’s response and we even had a past member of our Rotary Club, Roy Williams, emptying out his piggy bank to the amusement of a group of watching children! We are very pleased to say that we raised over £400 over the two weekends and want to thank everyone who supported our efforts to help those in such desperate need”.
