Young Musician 2005

Sun, Apr 24th 2005 at 12:00 am - 2:00 am

On Sunday 24th April a packed hall at Dunblane High School witnessed 17 young musicians performing an excellent selection of musical pieces. Lucy McCalister was winner of Group One with her clarinet rendition of "It ain't necessarily so", Katie Reynolds sang beautifully "To a Rose" to become winner of Group Two and Jonathan Bailey played "Doctor Gradus ad Parnassum" on the piano to become Group Three winner and overall Young Musician of the Year. Well done Jonathan.

The afternoon was hosted by Rotarian Joe Hawthorne whose wit and Irish humour entertained the audience who were delighted when Joe, after seven attempts, got the pronunciation of "Musette from Claivierbuchlein vor Anna Magdelena" almost correct.

The adjudicators were Ian Milligan and Rotarian Ian MacMillan. Ian Milligan gave each of the contestants encouragement for the future and positive criticism of their performances.

Rotarians and their wives provided refreshments after the first round of performances to allow the adjudicators time to come to their decisions. Thanks to you and also to all the competitors, their parents and tutors, our accompanist Peter Alexander and our adjudicators.

Special thanks to Andy Simpson Music Centre for their sponsorship.
