Russian Evening

Fri, Aug 26th 2011 at 12:00 am - 2:00 am

On Friday night, the Foundation and International Committee ran their first event of the session "A Russian Kaleidoscope". 116 members and guests enjoyed a fabulous evening at the Raploch Community Centre. The Russian Kaleidoscope Group members had arranged a full and varied programme of entertainment and food in traditional Russian style. The catering was provided by staff and students at the Forth Valley College who laid on a tempting taste of Russian foods. A traditional Russian greeting of bread and salt was shared by all, followed by a full three course meal to a menu devised with the help of Rotarian Elena Leschen sharing her Russian heritage. Frequent toasts were interspersed with poetry readings of Alexander Pushkin, recollections of visits to Russia and an introduction to some of the cities of the country. The evening was rounded off with entertaining displays of traditional accordion music, songs and of course dancing (including some audience participation) provided by the girls in the Group and some friends. It was an excellent evening of food and entertainment and the members of the Russian Kaleidoscope Group and the College were applauded by the audience for all their hard work in making it so enjoyable.
