During the First World War, many of the local boys gave their lives for their country and their names were recorded on a Memorial Plaque at the local Secondary Modern School on Church Road Thornton, where it remained for a number of years until the school was demolished in the 1970's.
Following the demolition of the school, Past President Tom Williams located this Memorial Plaque in a reclaimation yard in Yorkshire. Tom purchased the plaque and had it renovated and subsequently presented to Millfield School Thornton, (built to replace the old school). The photograph records the presentation of the Memorial Plaque to the school. (The photo shows, from left to right : Shaun Bullen Headmaster, Carol Bialowas Club President, Tom Williams Past President, and Harry Pindred Chair of Governers).
