27 June 2013 Queen Victoria School Volunteering Awards

Thu 27th June 2013

The annual awards for Volunteering were presented to pupils at Queen Victoria School.

The final assembly before the summer break at Queen Victoria School saw the culmination of the volunteering efforts over the year being recognised. Many of the causes supported during the year were there to thank the school and the pupils for their hard work: these included Red Cross, Startup Stirling, Mary's Meals, Parkinson's Support Group, So Precious and Wee Acorns nursery.
The pupils had signed up for the Saltire Awards, supported by the Scottish Government, and over 80% of the 6th year pupils achieved the maximum target of 200 hours.
Jill Adams, head of 6th form and a Rotary club member, paid tribute to all the pupils for their huge commitment.
Special awards were made to Alisha McCaig who received the Rotary Club of Bridge of Allan and Dunblane trophy for Inspirational Volunteer of the Year, and to Alanna Macfarlane who was awarded the Catherine Rodger Award for the leaver who has shown the Most Leadership in Volunteering. This award was presented by Eileen Johnstone, mother of Jill Adams and sister of the late Catherine Rodger.
The newly formed Interact Club were given a Presidential Citation from Rotary International in recognition of their exceptional efforts during the year.
