Last Thursday’s meeting started with a presentation of prizes to some of the lucky winners from the Rotary Duck Race held on 30 May at the Fling by the River. Well over £5,000 was raised from the Duck Race, Crepe Stall and Bouncy Castle. The money will go to Children’s Hospice Association Scotland (CHAS), ChildLine and other Rotary good causes. The day had been a great success and convenor John Kilby thanked all members and helpers for their hard work.

President Peter Farr welcomed visiting Rotarian Alistair Spowage from Alloa Rotary Club who is Assistant Governor elect for our area. Before getting down to the business of Club Assembly, President Peter made two well-deserved Paul Harris Fellowship awards to Past President Lawrie Orr and Secretary Iain Fraser. The awards were in recognition of both members long and dedicated service and they were congratulated by all members present.
Secretary Iain was particularly surprised as he prided himself on knowing what went on in the club - not this time Iain!!

Club Assembly was then presented by President elect Mary Fraser who outlined her aspirations for the new Rotary year which starts on 1 July. She then invited each of the chairs of next year’s committees to present their plans for the year. One notable statistic to emerge was that during the year, over £32,000 had been collected and disbursed to a wide range of good causes, including Strathcarron Hospice, CHAS, Parkinson’s UK, ChildLine, ShelterBox as well as many smaller donations to local causes.
Assistant Governor elect, Alistair Spowage commended the club on its continuing record of activities and fundraising and looked forward to working with us during his term of office.
