At the weekly Rotary meeting on Thursday, 4th June, President Charles Fletcher welcomed visitors from the Queensferry Community High School Interact Club. Students Jennifer Brunton, Andrew Dillon, Erin McCrindle and Nina Watson gave a most engaging and professional presentation of the activities of the club over the school year 2014 - 2015.

Supported by Queensferry Rotary Club, Interact gives students the opportunity to learn about social issues and to engage in projects designed to help others. President Erin McCrindle said that an appeal aimed at giving deprived Romanian children shoe boxes filled with clothing, writing material, toys and other treats had produced a total of ninety boxes. A sale bake later in the year raised £113.00 for the SSPC.

Asked if he had benefited through being part of Interact, Vice President Andrew Dillon said he felt more confident and had learned a lot about social issues from the range of speakers who had addressed the club. This summer he was volunteering to help in a village in Borneo. Asked how Interact might develop, Secretary Nina Watson said it was important to talk to other students and interest them in the club. Most students were very receptive, but there was an understandable drop in activity as work and exam pressures built throughout the year.   Treasurer Jennifer Brunton agreed that joining Interact had been a beneficial and enjoyable experience and thanked Rotarian David Buchanan for his advice and help throughout the year.

The Interactors were accompanied by high school staff members Rachel Kerr, Gillian Ness and Emma Ronnie, whose support for the Interact Club is greatly appreciated.
