THE VIKINGS ARE COMING TO STONEHAVEN HARBOUR FESTIVAL!
With the Feein’ Market over
for another year the local service clubs, Rotary, Lions and Round Table are
turning their thoughts to the third annual Stonehaven Harbour Festival to be
held on August 30th at Stonehaven Harbour form 11.00am.
The theme this year is
Vikings and the organisers are very pleased to report that they have managed to
get the support of the South Mainland Vikings led by the first ever female “Guizer
Jarl,” Lesley Simpson and some of her
band of Vikings to attend this years event.
The Up Helly Aa festivals
held in Shetland in the early part of every year are a striking spectacle and
the organisers are looking forward to showing the people of Stonehaven some of
the spectacle, although we cannot promise any boat burning.
Along with Vikings, about
which more later, there will be the usual sea based activities including, visit
of the Bon Accord lifeboat form Aberdeen, displays by the Stonehaven Inshore
Lifeboat, Sea Cadets sailing display, skiff racing, survival craft launch,
Coastguard display, and the ever popular raft races.
On the quayside there will be the usual charity stalls, teas and other food outlets run by the service clubs and others. For the youngsters there will be a sand castle competition and fancy dress parade to pick out the best Viking plus the ever popular bouncy castles and much more.
All funds raised will go to
deserving local charities.
