SMRC Sporting & Social Activities

Fri 20th October 2006

Seaford Martello Rotary Club have a very active Social calendar. The pictures shown here are just an example of the many Sporting and social events that our Rotarians attend, take part in and support.

JULY - we took part in the Lewes Skittles Competition, attended two nights and achieved the highest score by a service club (winnings £50 to club funds).

AUGUST - CURRY NIGHT at Miriam & Don's (thanks for their hospitality) was the usual success.

OCTOBER - Martin led a few of us on one of his famous walks, this time it was an almost 12 mile round trip from Blatchington Golf Course to the beautiful village of Alciston and back. The walk took in part of the South Downs Way and a pleasant interlude (9 miles) at the Rose Cottage pub in Alciston for a pint or two of Bryans (it was lucky he wasn't there) favourite ale (Harveys). At this stage some of the group took the easy option and were transported by car back to the comfort of their homes, whilst the remaining seven struggled (well I did, anyway) up to the top of the South Downs again to take the short (3 mile) journey home.It was a very enjoyable day and when I am able to walk again I will return to our weekly meetings. Many thanks to Martin for leading us and to the others for providing good company.

OCTOBER - visit to House of Commons - at the invitation of our good friend and local MP the Rt. Hon. Norman Baker, a small group of Martello Rotarians visited the House of Commons. Because of security restrictions regarding photography there are only a few pictures (thanks to Collins for the pics.)

OCTOBER - BBQ &  Fireworks - we all turned out on a dry but quite windy night at Janice's for the SMRC annual firework evening. We enjoyed a superb BBQ cooked immaculately by ex Pres. Bryan and then sat back to enjoy the spectacular pyrotechnic display provided and flashily ignited by Pres. Julian and Terry Dickinson. It was a very enjoyable evening. Thanks to Janice, Julian, Terry and John.
