Alex Cole-Hamilton MSP is our speaker

Raffle : Gordon Wood.

Reception: Eric Proven / Robert Farrelly.

President Graham Leith chaired the first meeting of the Rotary Club of South Queensferry in 2017 on Thursday 12th January. It was a formal evening with the Edinburgh West MSP Alex Cole-Hamilton as speaker.  In an engaging talk, Alex outlined his career, from early days leafleting for Ming Campbell in north east Fife to acting as organiser for Donald Gorrie. After working in the charity sector, Alex eventually took the Edinburgh West seat, depriving the SNP of its majority. He admitted that currently it is hard to be a Liberal Democrat, but that Holyrood was now more enjoyable and democratic. There was no better way to see the best of humanity than canvassing, and Alex included several humorous and poignant incidents experienced on the doorstep. Regarding the wider political scene, he viewed the 'post truth' world where lying is regarded as an acceptable political tactic as deeply disturbing. He was disappointed in the Brexit result and believed, with other Lib Dems, that another referendum was required on the Brexit deal once details were known.

Alex Cole-Hamilton's talk provoked many questions from the floor. He was introduced by Eric Proven.

Stuart Ridge, Club Foundation Convenor, donated several additional prizes to the weekly raffle to celebrate his birthday. President Graham thanked him for his excellent work on behalf of Rotary's own charity.
