Club meeting at the Faenol Fawr

The charity fund of Rhyl Rotary Club has been further boosted by a bumper windfall of more than £670 following the recent Party in the Paddock event hosted at the home of President Keith Roberts and his wife Sue. Reporting this most excellent profit to a meeting at Faenol Fawr, the President thanked all those who had worked so hard to achieve such a worthwhile outcome for the benefit of others. Particularly valued was the input from the industrious members of Rhyl Soroptomists working so hard in the background, chief scone-maker Mrs Joyce Marshall and notably the most generous and numerous contributions, support and ready assistance from nearby Tweedmill. “They really did us proud and nothing was too much trouble for them,“ he stressed. “Our sincere gratitude is most definitely due them.” The next hurdle for former trophy winners Rhyl will be to confront Colwyn Bay club in the opening round of this year’s District Rotary quiz, taking place on September 19 when Rhyl will enjoy home advantage. Meanwhile, all members are to be circulated with a 24-question confidential survey of opinions, aimed at establishing the most desirable path the club should take over the next few years. Secretary Gordon Marshall said no punches should be pulled in identifying what changes and improvements members felt need to be addressed. All comments, critical or constructive, will be carefully analysed ahead of a general meeting specifically convened to consider the issues raised and agree a way forward. The meeting concluded with an atmospheric account of the recent visit to New Zealand for the British Lions rugby tour undertaken by past President Gareth Wynne Jones. Emphasising the clearly powerful affinity shared by Wales and New Zealand, he said the unfailing warmth and friendship shown to the visiting tourists was high among the most striking features of his memorable trip. “It was a truly wonderful experience, full of unforgettable memories and I wouldn’t have missed it for the world,” he declared. The warm thanks to the speaker for such a gripping and enlightening talk were expressed by secretary Gordon Marshall.
