The resounding success of the multi-award winning community-focused Denbigh Hub has sparked UK wide interest, the project’s proud manager told a packed attendance of members, wives and guests at Faenol Fawr. Mrs Ann Edwards presented an impressive, comprehensive review of the expansive venture, aimed at meeting many varied aspirations and ambitions of young persons and adults alike across much of North Wales. Working alongside a number of supportive partners, including Denbighshire County Council, Llandrillo College, banks, Citizens Advice Bureau, and numerous local businesses, housing specialists and existing organisations, the aim of the equivalent of some 150-strong full-time staff involved in the collaborative people-centred approach, was to create a far-reaching programme of activities and opportunities, suited to enable individuals and the whole community to achieve its true potential. The £295million concept had already attained notable national and regional successes in encouraging and educating participants to become more self-reliant by acquiring a wide range of skills. The broad-based community initiatives provided widespread openings for learning and mastering ways that could lead to the enjoyment of a rewarding and confident life. So much so, said Mrs Edwards, that local authorities and county councils across the UK were regularly visiting Denbigh to discover what they could learn from the experiences gained so far and transfer them to their own needy communities. Inviting Rotarians and their families to come along the Denbigh Hub to see for themselves what was being done, Mrs Edwards was warmly thanked by Past President and former Head of Rhyl High School, Rod Brocklehurst, for her truly eye-opening talk. He said The Hub was clearly a most apt name for such an amazing venture which he was sure everyone would want to wish to see enjoy continued acclaim and success. President Keith Roberts announced that the next meeting of the club would be Business and Fellowship on Tuesday September 12 and he urged all members to attend as important decisions were likely to be taken.
