An immediate donation of £300 is to be sent to aid those hit by the devastating Hurricane Irma, members unanimously agreed at a business and fellowship meeting at Faenol Fawr. The desperate plight of countless thousands made homeless and destitute in the aftermath of this unparalleled destructive force of nature, evoked a strong desire to do something constructive to help. After being reminded of the truth of the saying “He who gives early gives twice,” the meeting agreed to commit this sum to be directed either through the Rotary District 1180 or national channels to wherever it could be used to maximum effect. Earlier members agreed to look for ways of best expanding working links with other Rotary clubs in the Vale of Clwyd as well as examining the most effective means of promoting Rotary and its motto of ‘Service Above Self’ among schools, colleges and young people in general. President Keith Roberts said this should be seen as an essential objective but meanwhile, arrangements were virtually completed to provide elderly gents with a week’s free holiday starting on October 9, with two further holidays being lined up for next March and May. In addition the club will be looking closely into the possibility of organising some significant new fund-raising ventures in the coming months, to fit alongside their regular charity collections at supportive local supermarkets.
