Ray had served for about 23 years in the Royal Air Force, having been stationed in many countries througout the world. After demob in 1985 he had re-trained as a Career's Advisor, from which he retired in about 2008.
Looking for something else to offer as service, he became involved in Royal Air Force Association and then SSAFA, which acts for all the services. It obtains most of its funds by applying to other service charities, such as Hope for Heroes, and is then able to help needy families in the North East region. They spend £650,000 per annum in this way.
John Lipscombe expressed our thanks and we were able to make a small donation from our Benevolent Fund.
