Guest speak at this week’s meeting was Antique Furnisher Restorer, Sylvia Forrest.  She explained how a Carnegie College Upholstery evening class Ied to her doing a City and Guilds HND.

Internships followed where she learned conservation and French Polishing. Sylvia and her husband now run a business called Worn to Wondrful.

Her creative projects involve painting furniture and saving items from landfill.  The trend towards clean modern lines led to discarding of older furniture. Now focus is on upcycling items e.g. coating bottles and jars with chalk paint, painted tin can on pallet wood.

Sylia’s project meets the waste reduction agenda and funds that she is being asked to do more and more workshops and jobs.
