Rotary is the most accessible it has ever been. We welcome new members but you do not have to be a member to help us support your local community.


Our wide range of projects in the community provide a variety of volunteer opportunities that you can get involved with throughout the year. Current Opportunities:

Love In A Box Christmas Shoebox Appeal

Volunteer roles availble October and November 2023: 

  • Collecting shoeboxes from schools and businesses around Derby (locations around Derby)
  • Sorting the boxes to ensure that they contain the recommended gifts (Alvaston)
  • Helping to load the lorry when the boxes are collected (Alvaston)

Each year we support Teams4U with their Christmas Shoebox Appeal which provides boxes of gifts and essentials to children in poverty in Eastern Europe. Last year we collected 2838 shoeboxes from the Derby area and co-ordinated over 7000 shoeboxes in total from our HQ. Please see the link below to read about last year's campaign.

Pensioners Christmas Tea at St Alkmunds Church, Kedleston Road

Volunteer roles available 7th December 2023:

  • Support to make refreshments tea,coffee, sandwiches
  • Support with entertainment

We provide an afternoon of refreshments and entrertainment for pensioners from local live at home schemes at St Alkmunds Church. We would welcome a couple of volunteers to support with refreshements particularly.

Charity Christmas Tree Sale at Royal Derby Hospital Staff Car Park

Volunteer roles available in December 2023: (dates to be confirmed)

  • Support to set up the sale
  • Support with the sale of Christmas Trees throughout the three days
  • Support to clear the site

Our hugely successful Christmas Tree Sale raises money for the Derby & Burton Hospitals Charity and other causes with all proceeds going to charity. This is a great team event so would be perfect for support from local businesses or from individuals.

Santa and Sleigh Charity Collections

Volunteer roles available from Monday 4th December 2023, Weekday evenings between 5.30pm and 7.30pm:

  • Support our team of Elves with our walking bucket collection

Our Santa and Sleigh routes around Chellaston, Mickleover and Littleover are great fun and bring a huge smile to the community. We will be raising money for two local children's charities.

The Park events include supporting a range of games to entertain the community including:

  • Human Fruit Machine
  • Knock the Sock (Bat the Rat)
  • Tin can alley (knocking cans down with bean bags)

Litter picking on World Earth Day 2022

For World Earth Day we held a litter pick at Alvaston Park where we collected 16 bags of litter and recorded 1556 pieces of plastic with Kids Against Plastic.

Make a Difference

We now offer a range of meeting times to suit all. Lunchtimes (1st 2nd and 3rd Monday), evenings (4th or last Monday of the month if there are five Mondays that month), and our Satellite meets online (4th Monday evening)

The Girl Empowerment Program in Ghana

We work with Village by Village in Ghana who are currently supporting a period poverty project to enable girls to continue their education. Also, a Tech to Teach programme providing tablets to schoolchildren

The Rotary Club of Derby helped seven local schools build Eco-Greenhouses out of recycled plastic bottles

Our Club has various activities throughout the year that support the development of Young People

Rotary members and volunteers

Rotary Clubs across Derby joined forces with National Trust, Derby City Council and local businesses to plant 840 trees, with more to come.
