"The performance analysis of football" by Ben Maitland

Ben is an ex-pupil from Wyvern College. Whilst studying computer science at the University of Wolverhampton he started an internship at Birmingham City Women's FC, eventually rising to Head of Analysis at the Club. During this time he worked in a support role with the England senior squad "Lionesses" during the WWC in France.  Upon graduating, her started his own business 'BRM solutions", and subsequently moved to Orlando in Florida USA to become Head of Analysis for Orlando Pride.

Ben explained how he works with the team manager, coach and players to imporve match skills. THis work involves filming techniques used during training and match play, and using the findings to set standards for the next game. In Orlando drones are used for filming because the hurricane risk is too great to use static cameras.

In his job Ben analyses all sorts of information, including statistical analysis of big data, and distills it into simple messages for the team players, either as a collective, or for individual team players, to enable them to improve performance. He advises on team trasfers and IT infrastucture upgrades.

Ben provided us with an informative insight into the world of Women's Football and answered all our questions admirably. Thank you Ben!
