Christmas Activities 2020

We had great fun this year with some brand new activities as well as our Santa Sleigh. Please visit this page for more details on how our Club has been helping to make a difference.

The Rotary Club of Derby adapted its annual Santa Sleigh to spread joy and excitement to even more children in 2020 and raise much needed funds for two charities who support some of the most vulnerable local young people. In normal times, the Club Santa Sleigh would visit families in Derby suburbs in return for donations. Due to the pandemic, such close contact was not possible, but organisers were determined not to disappoint children who traditionally enjoy seeing and meeting Santa in the approach to Christmas. The sleigh was able to go out on five of the planned eight routes, with much tighter restrictions and donations being sought by text or via JustGiving.

Working with the charities that we were supporting this year as well as getting some excellent support with the expertise of Derby digital agency Think3, who kindly produced an excellent Derby Santa website, we offered a new service where you could book a personalised letter or video message from Santa.

We also collected over 1800 shoeboxes for children living in Romania and Moldova. The project, led by Rotarian John Worthy, saw some fabulous donations from across Derby, all collected following the tighter restrictions imposed during the Coronavirus pandemic.

The club also made a donation of £420 to a charity supporting older vulnerable people living in Allenton, made a donation of £500 to purchase toy boxes for UK charity Kids Out and also donated a Christmas Tree to All-Saints Church for the community in Mickleover.
