Share Scotland Visiting Space

Covid pandemic restrictions were seriously affecting the possibility of parents and friends visiting residents of Share Scotland sheltered accommodation in Maude Close, Kirkliston. In this development, seven disabled young people are supported in individual flats offering them the chance to live the way they want. As meeting was only possible in the open air, difficult and uncomfortable at this time of year, it was decided to convert one of two garden sheds into a well-heated summerhouse. A suitable replacement shed  was bought using a £500 grant from the Rotary District Foundation Fund with the balance raised by the public.

Three volunteer Rotarians, Stuart Ridge, Derek Clark and Graham Clarkson, managed the conversion to a summerhouse. An electrical supply was professionally installed. Waterproofing and insulation was followed by fitting out and decorating with special paint used in hospitals which is germ-free and easily cleaned. Residents can now meet their visitors in warm, comfortable, safe conditions which comply with Scottish Government regulations.
