Dr Beth Rogers is Chair of the Executive Committee of the John Hampden Society, a Society dedicated to encourage wider knowledge of this statesman. John Hampden was one of the leading architects of the resistance to Charles I’s arbitrary rule during the years leading up to the outbreak of the English Civil War."

John Hampden - Rebel or Patriot

John Hampden was imprisoned for tax evasion and charged with treason. So how did this South Buckinghamshire gentleman get the accolade "The Great Patriot" and "Father of the People"? Why are places around the world named after him? What is the Great Hampden monument for? This talk will discuss the impact John Hampden had in his time and why he is still remembered today.
