Club Meeting

On Thursday 9th march, the Rotary Club of South Queensferry met at the Hawes Inn. The evening's speaker was Catherine Steyn of the Guide Dogs for the Blind Association.

The Association's history goes back to 1931 when Muriel Crooke and Rosamund Bond organised the training of the first four British guide dogs from a lock-up garage in Wallasey, Merseyside. Today, Guide Dogs is the world's largest breeder and trainer of working dogs. Since the Association was founded, 36,000 lives have been transformed by the provision of guide dogs. The association's experts also help blind and partially sighted people to live actively, independently and well - from getting around safely to dog care and welfare.

Like other charities, the Guide Dogs for the Blind Association relies on donations and legacies from the public to fund its vital work. Catherine's interesting and often amusing presentation was introduced by Robbie Brechin. Gerald Smith proposed the vote of thanks.
