Ukrainian Themed Evening with Robert Brown Thursday 4 May 2023 @ 18.00 for 18.30 @ Westlands

A full house of Members and guests experienced a really interesting and inspiring talk on local aspects of the Ukrainian situation given by Robert Brown and Dmytro Krupnitsky.

Robert a retired financier who had worked around the globe and is a fluent Russian speaker amongst other languages and lives in Bridge of Allan.  He detailed his experiences assisting a group of Ukrainian refugees finding accommodation in the Stirling area and the different ways in which people settled into the area.

Dmytro, a 14 year old student at Fairview school who speaks three languages English, Russian and Ukranian was displaced from Ukraine last year with his mother and settled with a BoA family.  In his presentation he explained how he settled into Scottish life admitting that his 8 years study in English back home in Ukraine had stood him in good stead.  It was clear from his manner that he was much more mature than his years as he expressed his love of Scotland and the oportunities in Scotland which did not exist back home, he is now learning the piano which was not possible at home.

After a very lively Q&A Alan Lee thanked both speakers for their really informative talks.
