On Thursday 4th May, members and guests of the Rotary Club of South Queensferry enjoyed a talk from Sandy Brechin titled 'Behind the Bellows'. Sandy is no stranger to the club as he is the son of long-standing member Robbie Brechin and his wife Margaret. Sandy is one of Scotland's best known accordionists, famous for his lightning-speed music and side-splitting on-stage humour. He is also a composer and song writer as well as running his own record label.

He has played in several bands, but is best known for fronting  the  four-piece Sandy Brechin Band, playing with traditional folk band  Seelyhoo in the 1990s and his own electric ceilidh band The Jimmy Shandrix Experience. He has often played on radio and made many television appearances and is also in demand as a session musician.

Sandy has toured all over the world and recorded over a hundred albums on various labels. Needless to say, his career has given Sandy a rich store of anecdotes which, together with his music, kept guests and members thoroughly entertained throughout the evening.

In other news, it was announced that  the Rotary club team of Jim McCulloch, Sandy Mackenzie, Neil McKinlay and Grainger Falconer had won the QCCC Golf Day trophy at Dundas Parks golf club. The competition, in aid of Queensferry Churches Care in the Community, has been running since 2006 and this is the first time the Rotary team has taken first prize.
