Modesty prevents me from making a direct comment about the quality of the talk at this meeting, since I gave it!
My wife and I have spent the last few months writing a book about Joseph Firbank, one of the pre-eminent Victorian railway construction contractors, who just happens to be the great-great-great grandfather of our three granddaughters (our son-in-law's ancestor, in other words). This book is the culmination of many years genealogical research by my wife and a few years railway research by me.
So, I eventually decided to recount some aspects of the research methods we used and some of the more interesting (to a general audience!) results. Significantly, I had taken the manuscript of the book to the publisher just that morning and we hope to see it in print in early July.
Footnote:-
Now that our book has been published, I shall claim editorial privilege to promote it here.
Copies of "Joseph Firbank - The Railway Builder" are available - an interesting blend of geneaology and railway history. Contact me via the email link below and I shall be happy to send you details.
