Christmas Lunch with Inner Wheel

Thu, Dec 15th 2011 at 12:00 am - 2:00 am

The Very Reverend Michael Sadgrove, Dean of Durham, gave the Christmas Message again, this year.

The Dean - an honorary member of the Club - delighted us with a most unusual Christmas Message at this joint meeting with the Inner Wheel Club.  He had obviously given a lot of thought to the development of an acrostic using the word ROTARY and came up with an original and appropriate view of the Rotary ideals at this time of year.  I have attempted to illustrate it below.

Recreation - or re-creation - in this mid-winter festival  for the renewal and refreshment of our ideals and relationships.
Openness - not hiding away, an awareness of the needs of others.
Togetherness - with family and friends - and those in need.
Altruism - thinking of others, generosity - and service above self.
Reverence - of whatever faith, for the wonders of childbirth - and renewal.
Yearning - for better things - peace, justice and hope.
(Much abbreviated from the Dean's erudition!)

In thanking the Dean for such an unusual message, Elaine Leake, Vice-President of the Inner Wheel Club, challenged him to do the same with INNER WHEEL for next year!
