Dave Thompson - The Scout Movement - Behind the Uniform

Be prepared ...!

Dave Thompson, leader of the 5th Durham City Scout group, told us something of the life-enhancing challenges faced by young people as Scouts.  He contrasted his own experiences as a young Scout with that of today's youngsters now that health and safety and other issues loom larger than ever before.  He particularly highlighted the problems posed by the presence of girls in Scouting movement.  Would you, he asked, be happy if your 16 year old daughter or grand-daughter was to to share a tent on an adventure expedition with a couple of 16 year old boys?  We agreed - there is no simple answer.  But why are boys not allowed to join the Guides?
Just a thought - of the 12 people to walk on the moon, 11 were scouts in their younger days.
