Jim & Margaret Welch - Blind Life In Durham

Thu, Aug 15th 2013 at 12:00 am - 12:00 am

Jim and Margaret came to tell us of their experiences in setting up this local charity.

Jim told us something of nis moving - and humourous - experiences since becoming blind,  He decided that he wasn;t going to sit around moping - he had to do something positive.  So he and Margaret decided to set up an organisation to bring affected people together in a social and supportive manner.  This resulted in the establishment of the charity, in June 2004, with the very effective title of Blind Life IN Durham.

Margaret then described the range of activities - including kurling and bowling - that the charity provides.  And Jim chipped in occasionally with wry comments and anecdotes.

We have supported this organisation both directlly and indirectly - it was one of last year's Mayor's chosen charity and therefore benefited from the proceeds of our 2012 Swimathon.

Check their website - it has been designed specifically to help visually impaired people.
